Dear Collective,

This month’s Tarot Reading for the Collective comes to you courtesy of Tattoo Tarot by Megamunden & Diana McMahon Collis. This tarot deck was a recent gift for my partner and I from our friend Elspeth. She looked most pleased with herself as she handed it over, and for good reason: what an appropriate gift it was for the Tarot Reader & Tattooer couple. I had been wondering what deck to use for August’s reading, so it was most serendipitous that one conveniently came to my front door! Thank you Elspeth!

This month’s questions are:

How can we hold our friendships lovingly?

How can we share burdens rather than isolate ourselves?

How can we be our greatest, quirkiest selves?

How can we stay clear enough to see the shadows that trip us up?

Let’s begin!

1. How can we hold our friendships lovingly?

7 of Wands

Be willing to unite to fight for what’s of substance, and patiently move through the moments when we are gnarly, annoyed or petty with each other. For deeper understanding, try to keep any difficult energy moving forward rather than turning it against those around you. Learn to see what is important to each other, and no matter how outside your own experience it might be, strive to comprehend. Stand by each other as you continue to face the rest of the world in all its complexity.

2. How can we share burdens rather than isolate ourselves?

The Chariot

Let The Chariot take you where you need to go – away from solitude and towards connection with others! The Chariot does not work in isolation – it is dependant on forward motion, companionship and teamwork. So, look to see who is heading in the same direction as you. Now is not a time to debate with those who sit in opposition to you. Why go there for empathy, when there is no history of it existing in those conversations? Share your burdens wisely: don’t dump them on others. Make requests that people can easily respond honestly to, and know that ultimately no one can ‘fix’ you and your burdens, but they can certainly witness your life and be present to your needs.

How can we be our greatest, quirkiest selves?

King of Cups

Be your greatest, quirkiest self by looking beyond the limiting definitions folks have of you, and you have of yourself. Spending time with I, the King of Cups, allows you to let your emotions to run boldly and fearlessly. I help you hold your stance so that you notice when you start to minimise your natural weirdness in the hope that people think of you as ‘normal’ (whatever that is). Don’t minimise! Courageously hold your breaking heart with such majesty that those who would laugh at you in an attempt to quash their encroaching fears, end up biting their own tongues in awe of your authenticity.

How can we stay clear enough to see the shadows that trip us up?

Wheel of Fortune

See the shadows because they are always there. Be clear enough to know that they never go away – you just get better at dancing around them when it is easier to see a path between them. The Wheel keeps on turning, so meeting with the shadows is an ongoing thing. Being aware of their presence in your life allows you to make better decisions about what to do as they turn up to try and trip you up. When the path is easier going, strengthen your ties with community so that on the shadowy days, you have more options to reach for. Find others who are unafraid to acknowledge the shadows on a daily basis, for they are the ones who are learning to live without delusion. Lean into that truth, it is good for your mind and heart.
