Dear Readers,
This is the first Collective Reading I’ve done since the lockdown. I moved my full-time tarot business to 100% online on Monday March 23, due to the pandemic. I miss my beautiful tarot office, and I miss meeting with the wider community within that sacred space, making you tea, and reading your cards. I’ve been doing tarot readings via phone, email and video chat on a regular basis since 2013 (and full-time in-person readings since 2003), and I am loving doing readings via these methods. I am grateful to be able to keep on showing up for you. I hope you and your loved ones are okay. May it be safe for us to sit together in person again soon.
For this Tarot Reading for the Collective, I wasn’t sure which deck to use, so I got out two, and when I drew the cards I saw that what both decks brought to the table were relevant and complimentary. So this month there are two tarot decks.
The ones I chose are: Dust II Onyx: A Melanated Tarot Deck by Courtney Alexander, and the Kali Tarot Prayer Cards by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince. I believe both these decks are robust enough to withstand these interesting times. I find them both strong and intense, yet with kindness and love at their core. They are both made by tarot practitioners who clearly have a unique, deep and embodied relationship with the tarot.
The questions for April are:
What should we steadily face?
What should we willingly forget?
How do we remain fearless?
How do we change the current tide, for a more equitable future?
Let’s begin.
1. What should we steadily face?
Temperance | High Priestess
Let us steadily face the most mysterious and intuitive aspects of ourselves. Be surprised by the abundance of synchronicities, even when there is a virus virulently disrupting our usual possible pathways. Be unafraid of what you see when you go deeper, as there will always be more strangeness to come. Best we get used to it and not let the uncertainty disrupt our relationship with ourselves and with life at large. Steadily facing the great mystery may bring us more answers than trying to analyse a virus (let the scientists and medical personnel do what they are trained to do, and let us support them in doing it).
2. What should we willingly forget?
Six of Staffs | Strength
Let us try and forget our old visions of success: Riding in on a wave of power/ being seen by the ‘in’ crowd/ countless dollars to our name/ finally winning at the capitalism game/ being ‘the best’… can we just forget it all? Can we forget about trying to succeed and dominate in a system that is founded in corruption? Can we do our best to rework our vision of success so that it doesn’t look like a marketing scheme? Can we imagine sharing our skills and our intelligence and our compassion so that all benefit rather than just a few? Can we forget the old, tired directive that we are supposed to work work work work to hold up a system that never cared about us in the first place? Can we forget about ‘meeting targets’ and instead meet with art and community?
3. How do we remain fearless?
Ace of Blades | Emperor – but here I want to refer to this card as Sovereignty, which is what Ellen Lorenzi-Prince named the Emperor card in her Dark Goddess Tarot.
Remain fearless by staying focussed on clear and well-researched information. Promote common sense even when you come across those petulant types who are attached to patterns that promote separateness and negativity. When we communicate directly we have the opportunity to slice through old fears and worries which may hold some truth, but certainly are not the only reality. Let us stay in the present with our thoughts, and maintain loving compassion to community.
4. How do we change the current tide, for a more equitable future?
The Lovers | The Star
Softness, kindness, healing, and genuinely inviting in the change that will disrupt seemingly inescapable hierarchies, so that those who have been downtrodden can take up the space that is naturally and rightfully theirs. This doesn’t have to be scary, it can be liberating. Particularly if we can renounce the drive to conquer and capitalise. We can work together, create space for everyone, and feel happier for it. Life shouldn’t have to be so harsh. Let the compassion, common sense and equity in.
